Titanium has really grown in stature when it comes to making a choice for a precious metal for jewelry rings. Gone are the days when you would steer well clear of this substance in preference for sterling silver, gold and platinum. And the reason isn’t just the fact that titanium rings are light, strong, and hypoallergenic. These creations have an added bonus in that they allow a jeweler to be more creative when designing their pieces, thanks to an invention which we call anodizing.
If you are not familiar with this process, it simply involves the process of heating the metal chemically so that it reacts and produces a coating that covers ring. This might no sound all that exciting, bu tyou can use the process to produce rings in many different colors, and makes for something truly unique. One of my favorite is when anodizing is used to produce a black titanium ring, perfect for the man who is new to the world of jewelry.
Anodized Titanium, a Unique Black Ring Choice and a Bit of Advice
The unique black ring designs are becoming more and more popular with both men and women. Rich diamond coated black titanium is achieved through a similar process and allows for jewelry that is solid black or can be a highlight of a two-tone design or just an accent that enhances a motif or engraved pattern. Again, I caution you about buying some of the really funky unique black ring designs that are sold for under $100 because the black may be only skin deep. You want an anodized black titanium ring that goes through the band at least half way. Because the blackening process is labor and technology intensive, it always costs more for a good one. The ones for $20 and $30 are superficially treated and can be fun in place of costume jewelry, but if you’re shopping for wedding bands in black, pay at least $100 and have genuine titanium that is treated and will last a lifetime.
