Submiting Your Site To Google May Not Be Fastest Way

February 8, 2010

The Submit Google tool is becoming more popular among growing websites and online businesses.  But does this program really help your website become more popular among web viewers?  Will your online business suddenly boom, just because you told Google you existed?

In case you don’t know, the Google Submit option is Google’s way of allowing you to shout, “I’m here!” at them.  It’s how you can submit your website to the Google search engine, so they can index the site, find out when it might be relevant, and then post it on people’s search engine results.  Go look up “pirates” or “ninjas.”  All those results have been indexed by Google, and that’s why they know which sites pertain to pirates and ninjas.

But what if your ninja page just isn’t coming up?  Well, that’s because Google doesn’t know you’re there.  Either that, or Google doesn’t really think you’re going to be relevant to the people searching for ninjas.  By submitting your page to Google, you can increase your visibility – but is this really a good way of making money from Google?

Maybe not.  Users have found that Google tends to take its good old time in actually posting submitted sites, possibly because it’s got a long queue of sites to index.  It may also be that Google doesn’t think your site is that useful – after all, if you had to submit the site yourself, that means that Google’s web crawler hasn’t found you on its own.

If your site has any popularity, the web crawler will probably pick up your site long before Google Submit will do any good.  The web crawler will base your relevancy largely on the amount of links to your site, posted on other sites.  This means that the best way to get yourself noticed is to have a really good site, linked onto a few other sites that find your page useful.  Keep your content original and helpful.  You can probably help yourself faster than Google can.
