Participating In an Icebreaker Game

June 27, 2010

If you’ve never participated in icebreaker games either at work or at a personal get-together or function then you are in for a real treat when you finally do participate in one. These group games are meant to get people laughing and working together in an undemanding environment, so that when everyone has to get to the nitty-gritty of what needs to get done, they are familiar with each other, what they know about each other are only good and fun things. Oftentimes, we assume new things and new people are a bad thing, and these games turn that stereotype around.

Be Proactive
If questions are asked, if participation is required on some level, or if a volunteer is requested, then go ahead and join the fun! Nothing about participating in an icebreaker game will be embarrassing and you will enjoy that you can get everyone laughing together. After you have done your part to make the icebreaker game more fun and enjoyable for everyone then you may just enjoy having been in the spotlight a bit. Higher ups may also have noticed your willingness to participate.

Get Others Involved
If you want to participate but not on your own, then encourage another co-worker or friend to join into the game with you so that you’re not alone. This can also make it easier for others who want to participate but don’t have the courage to just jump right in to be able to do it with someone else, relieving some of the hesitancy and worry of embarrassment that may be felt. Once more than just a few people are participating, then everyone will join in knowing they aren’t going to be the only one acting silly or laughing and enjoying getting to know each other and work together.
