A lot of website owners really want their site to make money – really, who doesn’t? If you’re going to the trouble of maintaining a good website, you might as well generate a little revenue from it. But most websites are too small to really get noticed; they don’t have a name for themselves yet. That’s why a lot of people are giving a shot at making money with Google, who already has a good name.
Google has two main advertising programs that can make you money online. The first is called AdWords. This program simply means that you’re advertising through Google. You tell them what your site is about, so they can target the right audience, and they post ads on relevant search result pages and host pages. People who see these ads are already looking for something like what’s featured in them, so there’s a much higher success rate in this than in, say, roadside billboards or magazine ads. These topics can get pretty specific, so there can be a high rate of success, regardless of how strange your business approach is. The charge for this is usually pay-per-click, although sometimes it can be per impression (or appearance of an ad.)
AdSense is the other main ad program run by Google. This program is just as effective as AdWords, but the program itself affects a different kind of site owner. While AdWords is used by those who want to get their site noticed, AdSense is used by those who have a site that isn’t really designed to make money in the first place. This is a means of monetizing the site, placing ads on a site from other sites, clients of Google. Essentially, people who use AdSense are running ads placed by people using Adwords. It means these ads are more widely placed, and Google gets more money because they’re more widely clicked. The site owner gets a share of the client’s fee.
